St Martin’s Church and Community Centre, Derby

A community hub now boasts a selection of outdoor gym equipment for use by a wide range of groups and visitors.
St Martin’s Church and Community Centre is the base for a number of social and support organisations.
STEPS Derby, which works with young people who have learning disabilities, is among the community services operating from the site.
It managed to secure a grant for the purchase and installation of a Sunshine Gym.
A Double Slalom Skier, Health Walker and an Accessible Arm and Pedal Bike are now available within the grounds of the church and community centre.
Already STEPS team members have enjoyed regular PE and HIIT sessions in the outdoor gym, which complements other sports activities such as badminton, cycling and bowls.
STEPS also has a range of inclusively designed indoor gym equipment, ensuring visitors continue to improve their health and fitness levels for body and mind.
The equipment from Sunshine Gym was installed by our teams on land behind the church hall with a grass mat surface to ensure the heavy-use areas do not get too muddy.
The gym is open to the wider St Martin’s community as well as STEPS team members.
Our teams worked with the group to achieve the best value for the grant funding, with all four stations inspiring users to get moving and have fun.
