Pupils at Watton Junior School in Thetford are enjoying a new outdoor gym which was purchased through the Government’s PE and Sport Premium scheme.
The equipment from Sunshine Gym is available to children during break and lunch times to accommodate active play and encourage social inclusion among peer groups.
Through an audit of PE equipment the school, which is part of the Corvus Education Trust, concluded that having an outdoor gym would increase sports capacity by ensuring facilities were always available.
Teachers also wanted to open up physical activity opportunities outside of PE lesson time and provide engaging cross-curriculum learning.
The outdoor gym at the Norfolk school is centred around a Children’s Activ8 Multi Gym which provides stations for eight users.
Equipment includes a Double Health Walker, Double Slalom Skier, Waist Twister, Tai Chi Discs and Arm and Pedal Bike.
Using a Multi Gym arrangement meant the school was able to really make the most out of the space available.
The fitness zone around the Multi Gym features two further Arm and Pedal Bikes, built for children under 140cm / 4’7” in height.
Two Rowers from our children’s range of outdoor fitness equipment add variety to workouts while two children’s Horse Riders provide the fun factor.
Two Sky Stepper machines, similar to outdoor cross trainers, complete the gym.
Sunshine Gym worked with Watton Junior School to create a safe and welcoming gym that met the aims of the curriculum.
Our highly trained installation teams finished the project by laying a rubber mulch surface around each station, keeping the ground mud free.
