Inclusive Outdoor Gym Equipment at Foxen Manor Playing Field, Powys
Sunshine Field Community Gym Installation
Sunshine Gym was commissioned by Llandysilio Community Council to deliver a new outdoor fitness project at Foxen Manor Playing Field. Known locally as Sunshine Field, the site now features an accessible gym designed to promote health and wellbeing across the community.
By working closely with local representatives, Sunshine Gym created a facility that offers long-term value, encourages residents to be active outdoors, and enhances the role of the playing field as a focal point for community life.
Inclusive Outdoor Gym Equipment for All Users
A key feature of this project was the integration of inclusive outdoor gym equipment, ensuring the facility is suitable for a wide range of abilities and age groups. The design allows residents of all fitness levels to take part, whether exercising independently, with family, or as part of community wellbeing initiatives.
The equipment was selected to be both durable and user-friendly, making it easy for everyone to get involved while ensuring safety and long-term performance.
Supporting Llandysilio Community Council’s Vision
By investing in the Foxen Manor Playing Field project, Llandysilio Community Council has reinforced its commitment to improving local amenities. The new gym complements existing parkland and recreational features, ensuring the field continues to serve as a vibrant, multipurpose community space.
This development highlights how community councils can lead the way in bringing accessible, inclusive fitness opportunities to rural and semi-rural areas.
Foxen Manor and Foxen Park Area Benefits
For residents of Foxen Manor Four Crosses and the surrounding Foxen Park area, the new outdoor gym provides a convenient alternative to traditional fitness centres. Free to use and always open, the facility eliminates common barriers such as cost and travel, making exercise more accessible to all.
The gym has already strengthened the role of Sunshine Field as a gathering place for social interaction, activity, and recreation.
Long-Term Value of Outdoor Gyms in Powys
This project demonstrates the long-term benefits of installing inclusive outdoor gym equipment in community spaces. The gym will support healthier lifestyles, improve local wellbeing, and increase the value of public spaces for future generations.
Sunshine Gym continues to work with councils and community groups across the UK, ensuring that every installation, like the one at Sunshine Field, meets local needs while setting new standards for inclusivity and accessibility.
The final installation includes a Double Health Walker and Double Slalom Skier. Along with a Sky Stepper, similar to an outdoor treadmill, these pieces of equipment offer a fun and varied cardiovascular workout.
An outdoor Rower is also available along with an Arm and Pedal Bike with wheelchair access.
A Combi Pull Down Challenger and Power Push offers the opportunity to include strength training in an outdoor gym session.
Situated adjacent to the play area, the Foxen Manor Sunshine Gym was officially opened with a ceremony in April 2022.
Further improvements being considered for the site also include a skate park.
