Primary School Outdoor Gym Equipment

Head Teacher Fiona Griffiths was incredibly impressed with the work that Sunshine Gym did at William Hildyard C of E Primary School. Following that success she contacted Sunshine Gym for another outdoor fitness area at her second school, St Georges C of E Primary School. The small fitness area was created to be used during lunch and break times, as well as being used as an aid in outdoor PE lessons.

A site meeting was carried out before work could begin to choose the best area for the equipment to be installed. Equipment positions were then marked out taking into account safety zones. All holes were dug precisely using a post boring machine. Next, ground anchors were concreted into position and left to harden. The equipment was then bolted down into place. Grass matting with ground stabilizing substrate was installed around the equipment, this allows for the grass to grow creating a natural looking environment, whilst also providing optimal impact absorbency. A final clean and inspection was then made before handing over to St Georges C of E Primary School and allowing use by the pupils.

The products installed included the Children’s Double Health Walker, Children’s Double Slalom Skier and Children’s Sky Stepper. The mixture of both single and multiple user pieces of equipment allows children to work at either their own pace, whilst trying to build their strength speed and stamina, or work with a friend to encourage each other to improve their fitness. Multiple user pieces of outdoor fitness equipment can be used to not only improve fitness, but also help develop social and communication skills.
